The Sandra Day O’Connor High School Panther Band has built a proud tradition of musical excellence since the school opened. The program offers students a comprehensive music education through marching band, concert ensembles, jazz, percussion, colorguard, full orchestra, musical theater, and a wide variety of individual performance opportunities.
Throughout its history, the Panther Band has earned consistent recognition at the local, state, and national levels. The marching band established a long tradition of UIL success, including numerous First Division ratings, appearances at the UIL Area Marching Contest, and multiple qualifications for the UIL Texas State Marching Championships. O’Connor has also earned caption awards for outstanding winds, percussion, colorguard, marching, music, and drum majors at festivals throughout Texas, while also enjoying a strong history of performances and recognition at the Battle of Flowers Band Festival.
O’Connor’s concert ensembles have maintained an equally strong tradition, earning numerous UIL Sweepstakes Awards and advancing through the TMEA Honor Band process. The jazz program has been recognized throughout Texas for outstanding ensemble and individual performances, with students earning positions in TMEA All-Region and All-State Jazz Ensembles and groups appearing at festivals and special performances across the state.
The percussion and colorguard programs have also contributed significantly to O’Connor’s tradition of excellence. O’Connor Percussion has earned championship honors at both state and national events, including a PASIC National Championship, while the Winterguard program has earned regional, state, and national recognition throughout its history.
Individual achievement has always been an important part of the Panther Band experience. O’Connor musicians have earned countless UIL Solo & Ensemble medals, advanced to the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest, and represented the school in TMEA All-Region, Area, and All-State ensembles.
Beyond competition, O’Connor students have performed throughout Texas and across the country, including appearances at Walt Disney World, New York City, Fiesta events, community celebrations, and performances alongside organizations such as the San Antonio Symphony and UTSA Wind Ensemble.
Most importantly, the Panther Band has always been about more than performances and awards. Our students are leaders throughout the O’Connor community, participating in athletics, academic organizations, student leadership, and countless activities across campus. Band members have consistently excelled in the classroom, with many graduating among the top students in their classes.
The tradition of the O’Connor Panther Band is built on musicianship, hard work, leadership, community, and generations of students who have taken pride in representing Sandra Day O’Connor High School.
